Kyiv Capitals` newcomer Nikita Liesnikov shared insights on his recent transfer to the team, reflections on last season’s face-to-face matches, and his aspirations for the upcoming playing year.
Nikita, tell us how the option of continuing your career with Kyiv Capitals came about?
I got an offer from a team during the offseason. After considering it, I decided to continue my career here.
What did you remember about the face-to-face matches with Kyiv Capitals as part of Dnipro last season?
Unfortunately, I missed some of the matches due to injury, but I watched each of them in the stands. All matches seemed intense and consisted of a large number of single combats and withdrawals. In general, the meetings were interesting, but not the «cleanest».
The team has recently commenced preseason training. How does it work in the new team?
During the training camp our team works in a positive mood.We have a lot of work, but nobody has any complaints – including myself.
Which hockey players on our team were you familiar with before joining?
In Ukraine, the hockey community is relatively close-knit. People tend to know each other either by reputation or through personal connections, so I was already acquainted with the majority of the players.
What are your goals for the upcoming season with the new club?
Both I and the team have set ambitious goals. We have plenty of time ahead of us to work towards achieving new victories.
In the new season, one more team than the previous one should preliminarily go to the start. How much does that add to the intrigue?
While I am not prepared to delve into details regarding the intrigue at this moment, the prospect of seven teams potentially entering the championship holds great promise for Ukrainian hockey. This development sends a strong message that, despite hard situation, our sporting industry continues to progress.
Non-hockey question. The Olympic Games are currently taking place in Paris. Do you keep up with what’s happening?
Yes, I closely follow the achievements of Ukrainian athletes. I was particularly cheering for Olha Harlan the other day. I am thrilled that our medal tally has been boosted with the first medal. I am hopeful that more medals are on the way!
