Heading into the penultimate game of the regular season, Kyiv made a few changes to the lineup. Due to the absence of Rustams Begovs, there was a rotation in the first line for the first time in a while, with Cipruss taking his place. Meanwhile, Zelts returned to the lineup.

Oleg Tymchenko’s men managed to take the lead after converting their first power play. Cipruss delivered a pass from behind the net to Karsums, who fired the puck into Ancs’ net with a one-touch shot.

However, the hosts responded quickly. Sprukts successfully finished the rebound after a shot from Deivids Sarkanis. Early in the second half of the period, Ankipans’ team converted its first power play as well. Ziemins capitalized on the crease, giving the Riga side the lead.

In the second period, Ziemins – left unmarked by the Kyiv defense near the crease – skillfully beat Boiko to score his second goal of the game.

Another defensive lapse allowed Zemitis to capitalize after receiving a pass from Sarkanis, converting what became a breakaway against Boiko. In a similar fashion, Janis scored his second goal while his team was playing shorthanded.

Unfortunately for Kyiv, the third period only increased the gap between the teams. Sprukts – who became the third player to record a brace – along with Fenenko, Meija, and Sarkanis added goals to set the final score at 9:1.

This defeat became the second loss of the season for Kyiv Capitals in head-to-head games against HK Mogo/RSU. As a result, the Kyiv team finished the regular season in fourth place.

On March 11, Oleg Tymchenko’s players will play their final game before the playoffs. Their opponent will be the Estonian Panter.
