Oleg Tymchenko’s wards secured a comeback victory in the first-ever match against an opponent from Poland.
For the match against Torun, our team arrived with a larger infirmary than in Scotland. Sprukts and Zelts were added to the previously injured Begovs and Sislannikovs. We note that the line combinations in comparison with previous friendly matches of our team changed only due to the absence of the mentioned players. Zukauskas took Sprukts’ place in the first attacking trio, and Cipruss appeared in his place in the third trio. Meanwhile, Mölder defended the Kyiv team net from the first minutes.
The start of the meeting turned out to be quite positive for the hosts. It was secured for Torun by the legionnaire attacking line. Peltola won a face-off in his zone, Hanzawa picked up the puck, starting a quick counterattack, and passed it to Larionovs. Mölder coped with Danila’s shot, but was powerless against the Japanese player’s rebound. It was with this minimal advantage for the hosts that the teams went to the first break.
The most interesting moments of the second period fit into its final five minutes. Oleg Tymchenko’s wards managed to equalize thanks to an executed power play. Morozov started a quick attack from his own net and carried the puck to the opponent’s territory, dropping it to Tsarkovskyi. Danylo got time to aim and beat Kalmykov with a shot from an acute angle.
However, the hosts took the lead for a second time, and for a second time, thanks to the active play of their second attacking trio. This time, Peltola successfully finished the attack, dealing with Andreykiv and Mölder one after another.
It took the Kyiv team just six seconds to respond. Morozov won the position against Kamil Kalinowski and, receiving a pass from Svars, sent the puck over Kalmykov’s glove.
The opponents started the third period at a tie. At its beginning, Kovalchuk first earned the right to a penalty shot after a foul by Ossipov, and then executed it himself. Thus, Mykhailo scored a goal in his fourth consecutive match.
The 2:3 score held until the final seconds of the meeting. And here it is worth noting the work of Mölder, who saved the team both during penalty kills and at equal strength. The hosts were finishing the match without Kalmykov in the goal, which the players of our team took advantage of. Cipruss threw the puck out of his zone, and it flew to Sarkanis, who hit Torun`s already empty net. So Oleg Tymchenko’s wards ended the first match with a victory.
