Oleg Tymchenko’s squad lost to the Fife Flyers in overtime.
In today’s matchup, the coaching staff opted for Romi Huunonen in goal. Anton Baida was left off the roster, while two other players for our team – Rustams Begovs and Olegs Sislannikovs – are still recovering from injuries.
Given the significant roster changes, Oleg Tymchenko had to form new lines. Compared to last season, only the defensive pairing of Andreykiv-Jansons remained unchanged, taking the ice from the start.
In the first period, our team showed character and managed to bounce back from a 0:2 deficit. First, Kovalchuk scored, followed by Sarkanis netting his debut goal in a Capitals jersey.
In the second period, Brants drew the Kyiv team level again with a shot from near the blue line, but the hosts managed to reclaim the lead before the second intermission – 4:3.
In the third period, Kyiv equalized twice more following goals by Zelts and Sarkanis, who completed a double.
The game went into overtime, where the Fife Flyers netted the winning goal fairly quickly.
