Compared to the second match against Torun, the head coach of our team made significant changes within the line combinations. As for the roster itself, Begovs and Sislannikovs continue to recover from injuries, and the Baida brothers were also absent. On the other hand, the newly appointed captain, Sprukts, as well as Zelts, returned to the ice.
The Kyiv team started the match by earning two power plays right away in the first half of the opening period. It was the second of these that they managed to convert. Korenchuk, after a pass from Svars, beat Voris with a shot from an acute angle. Thus, Illia became the author of Kyiv Capitals’ first goal in the new season.
However, after that, our team’s ex-goaltender showed his best, and a two-fold advantage in shots in the starting 20 minutes did not allow the guests to increase their lead.
In the second period, Oleg Tymchenko’s wards’ advantage in shots grew even more (14:3), but once again, Voris’ excellent work allowed the Kyiv team to score only once. After Stradnieks’ pass to Sprukts, the puck rebounded off the hosts’ goalie and found itself in the back of his net for the second time.
During the final period, Raimonds Vilkoits’ team had the opportunity to play with a two-man advantage for two minutes. However, they failed to create any significant problems for Oleg Tymchenko’s squad.
Instead, Sarkanis provided the finishing touch to the match, adding a goal to his two assists. Deivids skillfully dealt with Voris in the crease, setting the final score of the meeting – 3:0 in favor of the representatives of Ukraine.
We should also separately note Mölder’s debut shutout in his first match in the Optibet League.
