The teams arrived to Palace of Sports with their complete line-ups, while the guests had to make only a few changes in their composition. In the second pair of defenders, Moksunen appeared instead of Luhovyi, and Plesovskykh, who wasn’t initially listed in the line-up, replaced Koida in the fourth link. Odesa, as is customary, has changed some links. It’s worth noting the absence of Varava, one of their key defenders, from the line-up.
The game started off with both teams showing active play, creating opportunities near Hordiushyn’s goal and Boiko’s goal. Vadim Shakhraichuk’s team had a chance to score in the ninth minuteafter a two-minute penalty for Tymchenko, but Odesa managed to negate the threat. The situation was reminiscent of Karpenko’s previous goal against Sokil, as Mosiuk outpaced Berdniks and converted a one-on-one opportunity.
However, let’s not forget about Sevastian, who quickly equalized the score with two attempts against Hordiushyn. This goal marked Karpenko’s 23rd of the season.
At the same time, Storm capitalized on its` first numerical advantage, with Kutsevych scored against his former team. Odesa, on the other hand, scored for the third time as Nikonov’s shot evaded Capitals` defense, adding another goal to their tally.
The second period saw a flurry of penalties, with the Capitals hockey players facing numerous penalties. The most challenging moment for them came near the midway point of the period when Berdniks and Vasyliiev were sent to the penalty bench, resulting in a 5×3 power play opportunity for the opponents lasting 71 seconds. Despite the pressure, our team managed to hold strong.
Overall, the second period was less eventful in terms of scoring opportunities, except for a tense few minutes towards the end when Hordiushyn’s goal frame saved the day. However, no goals were scored before the second break.
In the final period, Storm quickly extended the lead with a Stetsiura`s goal, who capitalized on a shot from Sydorenko. Despite this setback, the Kyiv team fought back, with Berdniks scored a puck from long range. However, the game ultimately ended in favor of the home team, as Poimanov and Sydorenko increased Odesa’s lead to four goals. Kryvonozhkin also scored another goal, but it was disallowed by the referees after a high stick infraction.
A notable moment in the game was Sydorenko’s skillful finish during a 4×4 situation, further showcasing Storm`s performance. This victory allowed Oleksandr Bobkin’s team to close the gap with Capitals to just one point. Looking ahead, Vadym Shakhraichuk’s team will face Kremenchuk on Wednesday, while Storm-Odesa will take on Dnipro on the same day.
