The Kyiv Capitals newcomer talked about how his transfer to our club came about, shared his impressions of the training camp, and his expectations regarding the matches against British opponents.
Deivids, we are glad to see you in our team. Tell us, how did the option to join Kyiv Capitals come about?
Thank you! Glad to be here. After the season ended, Kristians Zelts contacted me and asked if I would be interested in joining the team. He told me a lot of positive things about the club and the organization. I replied that I would gladly try something new. Just two days later, representatives of Kyiv Capitals called me, and we reached an agreement quite quickly.
Last season, the matches between Mogo/RSU and our team were very fierce. How does it feel to be on the other side of the barricades now?
I played for Mogo/RSU for five seasons, so now it’s going to be a new and interesting chapter in my life. I am looking forward to the upcoming season. I really want to play against Mogo/RSU now. I am convinced that there will be uncompromising and spectacular games.
What are your first impressions of the training camp with the new team?
I have never had such a tough camp in the Optibet League before, but it is very good both for me and for the team. I feel great right now. I am convinced that the team will be fully ready from the first match until the end of the season.
You moved to a Ukrainian team, where the national roster is much more diverse than in Mogo/RSU. How are you adapting to this specific aspect?
I have played in many other countries where I was the only Latvian on the team, so I have no problems adapting to this. I like this kind of mix.
As a player who has spent many seasons in the Optibet League, how interesting is it for you that a Ukrainian team has been added to the competition?
It’s great. I see only pluses in this decision. We need more competitive teams like this in the Optibet League. Last season was very intense and interesting, so the more strong participants there are, the more interesting it is.
Last season you became the league’s top scorer. What are your personal goals for the 2026/2027 season?
The main goal for Kyiv Capitals is to win the championship. Those would be the best feelings after the season. As for me, I will do everything depending on me to become the league’s top scorer again.
Soon, the team will travel to Great Britain for exhibition games. Can matches against such opponents be called another pleasant bonus in preparation for the upcoming season?
Yes, matches against strong teams are perfect preparation for the season. The trip to Great Britain is a challenge for the team, thanks to which we will be able to see our strengths and weaknesses.
