The final opponent for Oleg Tymchenko’s squad during their Scottish preseason will be the Dundee Stars.
During the current offseason, our opponents underwent a coaching change. Canadian Marc LeFebvre, who led the Stars for three years, was replaced by his compatriot Scott Dutert.
The Scots’ main achievements date back to the early days of their history. In the 2001/2002 and 2004/2005 seasons, they won gold medals in the British National League, and following the 2002/2003 championship, they finished in second place.
Within the EIHL, the team has twice been a semifinalist (2016/2017 and 2021/2022 seasons). At the end of the previous season, the Dundee Stars finished ninth in the regular championship.
The opponents’ national makeup is traditional for British teams: 10 Canadians, 6 Scots, 3 Americans, and four representatives from other countries, whom we will mention separately.
During this offseason, the Stars roster was bolstered by 23-year-old Kazakhstan national team goaltender Vladislav Pestov, who had previously played only in his home country, Swedish forward Sebastian Bengtsson (Bad Nauheim, Germany), and two Finns – Maksim Eliseev (Red Bull Juniors, Austria) and Rasmus Nousiainen (Merano, Italy).
As part of their preseason preparation, our upcoming opponents played friendly matches against rivals we know quite well. Just like Kyiv Capitals, they managed to defeat the Glasgow Clan in an away game (3:0), and they also overcame Liepaja (7:1) at the Dundee Ice Arena.
As for our team, following yesterday’s victory over the Glasgow Clan, Harijs Brants emerged as the top goalscorer on the roster (3 goals).
We look forward to the third round of matchups against EIHL representatives.
