The head coach of Kyiv Capitals summed up the results of the previous season, and also spoke about the team’s roster formation and plans for the training camp.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oleg, quite a bit of time has passed since the end of the previous season. How would you characterize the overall result?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I can say that the season turned out quite well. The team was assembled in a rather tight timeframe, and we managed to create a competitive team. However, we fell a bit short of fulfilling our set task. The team’s goal was to reach the final series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which TOP-3 matches of the previous season did you watch, recall, and analyze the most after the championship ended?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first of them I would name is our debut match in the Optibet League. We played on the road against Zemgale\/LBTU and managed to defeat the opponent in overtime with a score of 3:2. For Kyiv Capitals, it was an interesting experience that started the team’s journey in the new league. The second match I would highlight is from the playoff series against Mogo\/RSU. Back then, the linesman left the team to play 3×5 for two full minutes. I saw such a thing for the first time in my life. The decision was surprising, and the match overall was ambiguous. I will complete this list with the away confrontation against HS Riga. The opponent’s roster features young hockey players who sometimes really caught their stride. We suffered a 1:3 defeat despite making 59 shots. There were also meetings where we got back into the game after trailing by a 3-4 goal difference, or gave away matches in the final minutes. Overall, there was a lot to think about and analyze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking of last year’s competitors, in your opinion, was the result of the final series logical?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I watched almost all the matches. I think that the result is logical. Mogo\/RSU got a little lucky, but luck is always on the side of the stronger team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let’s talk about the transfer work. Were there any players from last year’s roster whom you wanted to keep but couldn’t?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Almost all the hockey players we wanted to keep continued their careers with Kyiv Capitals. As exceptions, we can note the situations with Voris and Kryvonozhkin. However, our roster is complete, and I can only wish the guys success in other teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The club has already made quite a few transfers. What did you try to focus on?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the middle of last season, we talked with the coaching staff and the club’s management. Everyone agreed that we need to play more aggressively and faster. To achieve this, we focused on roster rejuvenation. I hope that the guys who arrived will help the team demonstrate exactly this kind of game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The roster now has more Ukrainian players who are candidates for the national team, as well as representatives of the youth national team. Is this also one of the club’s prerogatives?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, first of all, we review Ukrainians who want to play for Kyiv Capitals in the Optibet League, and only then do we consider other candidates. We are a Ukrainian team, so this is our priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, many hockey players from the rosters of last season’s Optibet League medalists joined the team. Tell us, how did the work on their transfers go?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I`m glad that players from leading Latvian clubs want to play for Kyiv Capitals. However, this can be considered a certain regularity. I talked with the guys, and they noted the wonderful atmosphere in the team and a great group. Everyone highly appreciates the work of the management, the coaching staff, and the conditions created in general. I believe that in terms of organization, thanks to the fruitful work of our executives and managers, we are the best in the championship. That is why the leading players of the Optibet League want to defend the colors of Kyiv Capitals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How satisfied are you overall with the selection of hockey players by position? In particular, the competition at the goaltender position catches the eye, where four players of this role are represented at once.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I`m very satisfied with the players who have arrived. The main thing is that they withstand the physical load and understand what we will demand from them. In terms of names, everything is great for us. All that remains is to wait for the matches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are any more transfers planned?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I will note once again: I`m very satisfied with the current roster. I believe that as of now, the tasks of assembling the team have been fulfilled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dates of the training camps are already known. Tell us how the team’s preparation will be structured.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ll start by saying that the guys received summer preparation assignments. At the start of the camp, everyone will pass two tests. On the first Monday of August, we will start training in Ozolnieki. There are all the conditions there: ice, a gym, a hall for team sports, a football field \u2013 everything needed is within 500 meters. It`s an ideal place for a training camp. We will be there for two weeks, then we move to our arena in Pin\u0137i, and in parallel, we will prepare for three games in Great Britain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two years ago, Kyiv Capitals faced British representatives for the first time in their history. Are the upcoming three matches scheduled during the Scottish camp a kind of litmus test for what needs to be worked on right before the start of the season?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, these will be very informative matches. Many Canadians and Americans with British passports play there. It`ll be very interesting to see how our guys will face opponents of this level.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
